I provide independent, practical SEO support to businesses and organisations across Cambridge and beyond.
Every project is different. Some clients need help resolving a critical technical problem, while others require an independent audit, a clearer content strategy or the skills to manage SEO themselves.
These recent projects demonstrate how focused SEO activity can deliver sustainable results without necessarily requiring a long-term retainer.
No. 6 Developments provides planning, development and project management consultancy for large-scale campus developments.
The team has supported major projects across Cambridge, including Cambridge East, Cambridge Airport, Cambridge University Hospitals and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
However, an ongoing technical issue meant that the company’s website was not being properly indexed by search engines. As a result, potential clients searching for its services could not find the business organically.
I completed the following to overcome the issue and charged only 0.5 days consultancy:
The website was picked up by Google quickly and now achieves strong organic visibility for relevant consultancy, campus development and project management searches.
This project demonstrated that SEO does not always require months of content creation. Sometimes, resolving a small number of fundamental technical issues can make an immediate and significant difference.
Cambridge Sashcraft provides specialist sash window services across Cambridge and the surrounding area.
The business wanted an independent assessment of its website and organic search performance before committing further time and budget to SEO.
I completed a detailed audit covering:
Rather than producing a long report containing dozens of disconnected observations, I prioritised the recommendations according to their likely impact and the effort required to implement them.
This gave Cambridge Sashcraft a clear and manageable roadmap that it could take forward with another delivery partner.
My role was to provide independent advice, identify the most valuable opportunities and ensure the client could invest its SEO budget in the areas most likely to improve performance.
Cinespark is a media-wall installation company with a strong portfolio of creative work including for clients in Cambridge and East Anglia.
Following a review of the website, I completed a content audit to identify gaps, duplication and opportunities to improve how individual services and projects were presented to search engines.
The audit developed into practical SEO training, helping the client understand how to:
The client now successfully manages its own content strategy and ongoing SEO activity.
This is an approach I actively encourage. SEO should not be made unnecessarily complicated or dependent on an agency. With the right foundations, processes and training, many businesses can manage a significant proportion of their SEO internally.
During the planning of a new website for the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire, I identified organic search visibility as a critical requirement.
The website needed to be found not only for obvious searches such as “High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire”, but also for searches involving the individual office holder’s name and alternative terminology such as “Sheriff” and “Shire Reeve”.
SEO considerations were therefore built into the website from the beginning, rather than added after launch.
This included:
The website now appears within the top three organic positions for its primary target searches.
The project illustrates why SEO should form part of website planning. Decisions about navigation, page structure, content and terminology are much easier to address before a website is designed and built.
My wife is a freelance PR consultant with an established agency website, May Fifteen Communications, which achieves leading positions for its target searches.
I also created a separate freelance PR consultancy website for her in 2003. The site received one major update in 2024, moving from static HTML to a Google Site but with the same number of pages (x4) and content, but has otherwise required relatively little ongoing SEO activity.
Despite this, it has consistently achieved prominent organic positions for relevant Cambridge freelance PR searches.
I treat the website partly as an SEO test. It demonstrates that a small, focused website can perform extremely well when the fundamentals are handled properly.
Those fundamentals include:
Not every business needs an always-on SEO retainer or a relentless publishing schedule.
For many specialist and local businesses, getting the basics right and reviewing performance periodically can be enough to maintain excellent organic visibility.
These projects required different solutions, but the underlying approach was the same: identify what is preventing the website from performing, prioritise the work that will have the greatest impact and give the client a clear way forward.
My Cambridge freelance SEO services include:
I provide flexible, independent support without long contracts or unnecessary activity. This might involve resolving a specific technical problem, completing a detailed audit, supporting a new website project or helping an internal team develop the confidence to manage SEO themselves.
